Ending Gender-based Discrimination

July 8, 2009

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition has proposed a bill to amend the Commonwealth’s stance on Hate crimes, focusing on Gender-based discrimination and transgender American’s. This bill is coming to hearing Tuesday July 14, 2009 and Sean is one of the bill’s co-sponsors. This bill is bringing the Commonwealth up to speed with the rest of the country regarding transgender-inclusive non-discrimination and hate crimes laws. Because of a number of citizens that have been discriminated against due to their gender transformation alone, the Commonwealth must act now. Sean invites you to voice your opinion on this or any other issue in the blog or through email and phone.

As always Sean can also be reached at the office 617-722-2400 or on his cell phone 781-859-7781. His email address is Sean.Garballey@state.ma.us.

Helping keep our children healthy over the summer

June 30, 2009

The Medford Housing Authority has recently been awarded a $4,000 Summer Food Service Program Incentive Grant from Project Bread- the Walk for Hunger.  This grant will help to raise the number of children who will be able to receive a healthy, federally reimbursed, free meal throughout the summer when school is completed for the summer.  The grant represents Project Breads efforts to increase federal money into various communities throughout Massachusetts by increasing participation in federally reimbursed food programs.  This grant is made much more beneficial to families in Medford during these tough economic times where every program and measure of help can drastically shape a family’s condition for the better.  The Medford Community will be able to use this grant to ensure that its children will return to school in the fall energized and ready to learn.  I have been a strong supporter of programs to help the children living in my district.

First Annual BBQ a Hit!

June 22, 2009

With the rain holding off, our BBQ rolled on with great music, food, and supporters. I would like to personally thank everyone who was able to attend this past weekend. I know that it can be difficult to find time, in the weekend especially, to come and show your support but the turnout was amazing. It is very important to me that all of the voices in my district are heard, that is why events like these are vital.

For those of you who were unable to come, next week I will be holding office hours Monday June 29th 10am- 11:30am at Panera Bread in Arlington. Thanks again for coming out and keep an eye open for more fun events to come.
